How Many Words Should You Use for Your Articles?

Start by writing your article without consideration to the word count.  Use this metric instead: cover your subject as clearly and concisely as possible and long enough to be as complete as is reasonable.

If you can get up to 500 words, you'll have more than enough and consider 1,000 words to be near the top of the range.

It will take the average American reader about 1 minute per 100 words, so a 500 word article will take 5 minutes average to read and a 1,000 word article will take 10 minutes average to read.

Edit the Article to Fit the Publisher's Requirement

Each publisher will have their guidelines for article length.

If you have longer content, break the article up into several articles and link them logically together.

Sure, use a spell checker and grammar checker, too, but don't stop there.
